Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe (KVS) was established by a group of precursors and philanthropists including Sri A. C. Pallagatti Adavappa and Sri J. R. Mahalingaiah in Tiptur in 1962. Initially it aimed at providing education to rural students in this region. As years went by students came from different parts of Karnataka, seeking knowledge in our institutions under KVS. At present KVS is offering quality education from a pre-school course to a post-graduate course through its institutions multiplied over the years. Now the various institutions functioning under KVS are: Kalpataru Montessori House of Children, Kalpataru Central School (CBSC), Kalpataru Pre-university College (Arts, Science and Commerce), Kalpataru First Grade Science College, Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and Commerce First Grade College, Kalpataru College of Education, Kalpataru Institute of Technology (B.E., M.Tech. and M.B.A.) and Kalpataru Research and Development and Industrial Consultancy Cell.
The word ‘Kalpataru’ is highly significant as it means a coconut tree. Our town is popular as a coconut town in India because a good quality of coconuts and copra are exported to different parts of India. ‘Kalpataru’ is also referred to as a divine tree in the Puranas offering anything a man asks for. It is a tree of all seasons satisfying the needs of people because every part of it is useful in one way or another. Though obtaining coconuts is the main aim of growing coconut trees, its by-products are of great use. Tens of thousands of families make a living by converting its by-products into useful articles.
The founding fathers of our educational institutions met our National Poet Dr. K. V. Puttappa, a winner of Jnanapeet and Padma Bhushan awards, in Mysuru and requested him to suggest a name for the college planned to be established. The poet suggested the name Kalpataru and the college came into existence as Kalpataru College administered by KVS. He said at the time that our college should grow like Kalpataru, giving whatever a student needs. His wishes have been fulfilled. Today many of our former students have been rendering efficient service in several countries for the well-being and progress of humanity.
Kalpataru College was started in 1962 with a view to providing a high-quality education to the students of Tiptur and its surroundings. It has been a long successful journey for the college where the students are led by the teachers working tirelessly to impart knowledge. Tiptur which was in a dormant state in 1962 is now a highly urbanized town owing to the vision of our founding fathers and the missionary zeal of our teachers determined to lead the seekers of knowledge from darkness to light.
For administrative convenience Kalpataru College was divided on 01 July 1982 into Kalpataru First Grade Science College (KFGSC) and Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and Commerce First Grade College (PAACFGC). PAACFGC was treated as an off-shoot and named after the chief founder Sri Pallagatti Adavappa.
PAACFGC has been recognized as an important centre of learning since students come from several villages travelling about 50 kilometers every day for enlightenment. It provides higher education to students on a par with other higher education institutions. Our college has successfully completed 50 and celebrated “GOLDEN JUBILEE” in 2012, proving its academic excellence. It offers a variety of courses like B.A., B.Com., B.B.M. and M.Com., meeting the needs of students. Higher education has been made accessible to about 1000 students representing all sections of society.
Since its inception, our institution has grown to greater heights, within a short span of time. Apart from providing education, we motivate students to face the problems of life and fulfil the expectations of society. We are proud to say that we encourage co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like N.S.S., N.C.C., The Bharat Scouts & Guides, Yuva Red Cross, Sports, Literary, Artistic & Cultural Activities. The vision of our institution “EDUCATION FOR THE SAKE OF KNOWLEDGE, BEHAVIOR AND EARNING” is reflected in all our academic environment.
